Ecology and sustainability of tourist accommodation facilities as well as the promotion of less developed areas in Croatia are the main goals of the new platform Ecobnb.
Ecobnb is a combination of eco-friendly accommodation and authentic rural and ecotourism experiences, and this new online platform is now available in Croatia.
It is estimated that tourism globally contributes to total world greenhouse gas emissions with about 5%, of which about 40% belongs to air transport, 30% to car transport and 20% to tourist accommodation (UNWTO & UNEP, 2008). But trends are changing.
"Modern tourists, especially millennials, a generation that will represent 2020% of all travelers by 50, expect their trip to be authentic, sustainable and responsible. The beauty of the landscape and ecological preservation are elements of the offer in which Croatia has an advantage over competitors and because of which we have decided to expand our business to the Croatian market.”Points out Nastja Logar, Ecobnb representative in Croatia.
Ecobnb singles out the eco-tourism offer and connects environmentally responsible hosts with travelers in search of peace, clean air, untouched nature, tradition and learning about the local way of life all through the prism of reducing the carbon footprint of tourism on the environment.
In order for some accommodation to be listed on the platform Ecobnb.com, it is necessary to meet a minimum of 5 out of 10 eco standards that contribute to reducing costs and improving the environmental sustainability of the facility. These are: organic food, green building, 100% renewable energy sources, solar panels, separation of at least 50% of waste, environmentally friendly detergents and cleaning, availability without cars, energy-saving lighting, water reducers and rainwater collection and reuse .
"Ecobnb together with various partners (NGOs, local and national authorities, certification / eco label providers, companies with eco products and services) today connects a community of one million travelers looking for green accommodation and unique eco experiences and proves that there is an innovative and sustainable alternative classical tourism. That the application of environmental sustainability in accommodation facilities is the future of tourism is proven by the award for excellence and innovation that the World Tourism Organization awarded to the Ecobnb platform in 2017.", Logar concluded.
More than 3.000 eco-friendly tourist accommodation facilities in Europe can be booked via the web platform and mobile application, and in Croatia there are currently about 10 hosts in family accommodation on the Ecobnb platform, and one of them is Villa Perka on the island of Hvar.
Environmental awareness and sustainability are one of the main trends in tourism, and awareness of the same is only growing from year to year, especially in the case of millennials and future new tourists.
