As we know, on January 01, 2021, the new Aliens Act came into force, which regulates visas for digital nomads.
Temporary residence of digital nomads may be granted for a period of up to one year in accordance with Article 69 of this Act. According to the official definition digital nomad is a third-country national who is employed or performs work through communication technology for a company or his own company that is not registered in the Republic of Croatia and does not perform work or provide services to employers in the territory of the Republic of Croatia.

Third-country nationals who do not need a visa to enter the Republic of Croatia can apply at the police administration, ie the police station according to their place of residence, the Ministry of the Interior points out, and if they need a visa to enter the Republic of Croatia, they apply at the diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Croatia abroad.

Given the pandemic disease COVID 19 request (Form 1a), with the accompanying documentation, may be sent electronically to the competent police administration, ie police station. The requests are resolved as soon as possible, taking into account whether all the necessary documentation for the need for a temporary residence permit for the purpose of staying a digital nomad has been submitted, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
The request (FORM 1a) is accompanied by:
- valid foreign travel document
- proof of health insurance (private health insurance or travel insurance is recognized),
- proof of the purpose of residence (that the person is employed and performs activities through communication technology for a company or own company that is not registered in the Republic of Croatia, eg employment contract or statement of the employer, company registration),
- proof of means of subsistence (bank account statement) in the amount of 12 times the amount prescribed by the current Regulation on the method of calculation and amount of means of subsistence for third-country nationals in the Republic of Croatia,
- proof that the person has not been legally convicted of criminal offenses from the home country or the country in which he or she resided for more than one year immediately before arriving in the Republic of Croatia (during the first stay).
According to the current Decree on the method of calculation and amount of funds for the maintenance of third-country nationals in the Republic of Croatia, persons regulating temporary residence should have financial resources in the amount of HRK 28.800 for a year, according to the Ministry of the Interior. based on the new Law on Foreigners, which will prescribe the amount of funds for the approval of temporary residence of digital nomads.
Temporary residence for the purpose of digital nomads may be granted for one year, and a new application for regulating the temporary residence of digital nomads may be submitted after the expiration of six months from the expiration of the temporary residence granted for digital nomads.
