In the old part of Vodnjan, full of narrow streets, there is probably the narrowest and shortest street in all of Istria. The residents of Vodnjan tell a nice story about her, and it is related to the Austro-Hungarian period.
Around that time, the gendarme caught the thief in the act and a chase began through the streets of the old town. As the thief was fast, he outran the gendarme. In the end, he ran into a small, narrow alley.
Thin and fast, the thief took a few steps out of the alley without any problems. "A little less skinny" gendarme entered the alley and got stuck there, so he never caught the thief. The narrowest street today bears the name Historic center.
The story of the narrowest street is very much loved by the visitors of Vodnjan, which is why the Tourist Board of Vodnjan classified the narrowest street as an attraction that every visitor should see.
