According to the data of the Central Bureau of Statistics (DZS) in March 2017, there was a decrease in the total number of tourist nights. Thus, in March, is increasing arrivals and nights of domestic tourists were realized, which is certainly very good news but decrease of foreign tourists.
The County of Istria realised most tourist nights
In March 2017, there were 161 thousand nights realised in the County of Istria. The highest number of nights were realised by tourists from
Slovenia, 22%, with 13% more arrivals and 12% more nights as compared to March 2016.
More domestic tourist arrivals and nights and less foreign
In March 2017, the number of tourist arrivals amounted to 343 thousand, which is by almost 1% more than in March 2016. Tourists realised 750 thousand nights in commercial accommodation establishments in Croatia, which is 11% less compared to the same period of the previous year. There were 15% more arrivals of domestic tourists and they realised 2% more nights in March 2017 than in March 2016. There were 5% less arrivals of foreign tourists and they realised 15% less nights in March 2017 than in March 2016.
The most nights in March 2017 were realised by tourists from Germany (13%), Slovenia and Austria (12% each). These were followed by tourists from Italy and the Republic of Korea (7% each), Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States of America (5% each).
In the period from January to March 2017, as compared to the same period of the previous year, there were 7% more tourist arrivals and almost 1% more tourist nights in commercial accommodation establishments in the Republic of Croatia. Out of the total 1 662 thousand tourist nights realised, 64% were realised by foreign and 36% by domestic tourists. In the period from January to March 2017, domestic tourists realised 12% more arrivals and 3% more nights while foreign tourists realised 4% more arrivals and 1% less nights, as compared to the same period of the previous year.
Most nights realised in hotels
In March 2017, most nights, that is, a total of 534 thousand nights or 71% of total nights were realised in hotels. Compared to March 2016, hotels recorded an increase in tourist arrivals of 1% and a decrease of 10% in tourist nights.
In March 2017, there were 69 thousand rooms, apartments and camping sites in Croatia available to tourists with a total of 159 thousand permanent beds. In the group Hotels and Similar Accommodation, there were 38 thousand rooms and apartments available for renting to tourists with a total of 75 thousand permanent beds. The average occupancy of rooms was 33% and of permanent beds it was 27%.
Tourists aged 35 to 44 most tourist nights
In March 2017, tourists belonging to the 35 – 44 age group realised the most nights (134 thousand or 18% of total nights).
