For the past four years, Croatia has been a member of the Committee for Tourism and Sustainability, and for the last two years it also chaired the same Committee, and was re-elected as a member of the Committee for Tourism and Sustainability of the UN World Tourism Organization.
Namely, the state secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Tonči Glavina, participated in the 68th meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Europe, which takes place from May 31 to June 2 in Sofia, Bulgaria. At the mentioned meeting, membership in the main and auxiliary bodies of the UN World Tourism Organization was voted on.
Re-candidacy of Croatia for a new mandate for the period 2023-2027. it is a confirmation of the orientation towards sustainable tourism and the reforms reflected in the Strategy for the Sustainable Development of Tourism until 2030 and the new Law on Tourism, which is expected to come into force at the beginning of next year. With the re-election, Croatia has been recognized by its partners in the UNWTO as a leader in sustainable tourism policy in the world, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MINTS).
"European tourism is recovering strongly and is on track to return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of the year. Now is the time to step up our efforts to transform our sector, with a skilled workforce and the right investments key to its resilience, sustainability and inclusiveness."." said the Secretary General of the UNWTO Zurab Pololikashvili.
As part of the meeting, on the last day of the Commission for Europe, a thematic conference on the topic of health and wellness tourism was held, where the key message was that wellness and health tourism is ready to offer significant benefits to destinations around the world - but it will require coordination, investment and qualified workforce to fully utilize its potential.
