Already last year, a new trend of transport through the rental of public bicycles came to life in Split, and now the entire system is experiencing additional expansion through a new contingent of bicycles, as well as new stations at 12 locations in Split.
Thus, a new contingent of a total of 194 public bicycles and 39 stations was presented in Split yesterday, which will be set up at locations throughout the city.
This is a project to expand the network of the Public Bicycle System as well as to continue the investment of the City of Split and the company "Split parking" in the increasingly popular form of public transport. As of today, the total number of public bicycles in the town under Marjan has risen to 280, and the number of stations to 51.
"It is not long before some have been skeptical and reserved about this project. However, we are the first city in Croatia in terms of the number of public bicycles. We are working on urban and sustainable mobility. We returned the bicycles to the citizens and the public space. Of course, we are facing the construction of infrastructure and new paths and routes for cyclists, including the one from the Port Authority building to Trstenik. With this system, as well as the new ecological buses of Split's "Promet", we have practically remodeled public transport in our city.”Said Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara.
Around 11.000 users are currently registered in Split, which is certainly an impressive number, in accordance with our habits, so Split has become the city with the most users of public bicycles in Croatia and the region.
To control the distribution and use of bicycles, there is a service that monitors this and schedules bicycles twice a day to achieve optimal condition at the stations, said the director of Nextbike, Ante Gustin, and added that the goal is to achieve natural redistribution as much as possible, which will happen with more stations and bicycles.
"We monitor the situation and where there is an increase in demand will increase the number of racks. The system proved to be a complete success in Split, in just over a year over 70 rents on 86 bicycles so far. I have to praise Split because it is the first city to implement the public bicycle system in its entirety in the true sense of the word, but there is still room for improvement, of course. As a next step, the plan is to introduce the possibility of booking for 15 minutes in the future so that citizens can plan their ride and have a bike waiting for you at the location.", Concluded Gustin.
12 new nextbike stations were put into operation at the following locations: Stobreč center, Ravne njive - Domovinskog rata, Sućidar west, Ferry port, Poljud stadium, Firule hospital, Mertojak primary school, Campus - FESB, Žnjanski blizanci, Trstenik beach, Duilovo and Lovrinac, and the remaining stations with their bicycles will be put into operation as they are set up, and the set-up is expected to be completed by mid-December.
It is interesting to note that the registration of the Nextbike public bicycle system is valid anywhere in the world, or over 250 worldwide. Good news for tourists who come to Split because they are familiar with the whole system and can easily use public bicycles, of course those who are already registered.
Bravo Split which accepted city bicycles as a supplement to public transport. The public bicycle system should be the standard offer of each of our serious tourist destinations. Of course if we want to deal with the strategic development of tourism and talk about the tourist year.
