The champion of the seventh Sunflower of rural tourism in Croatia for 2019 is Roxanich Wine & Heritage Hotel from Motovun, which is the winner of the Golden Sunflower.

By the summer, 150 applications from almost all parts of Croatia had been received for the Sunflower Rural Tourism competition, and the best are decided every year by a commission composed of tourism experts.

In addition to the championship title, Gold, Silver and Bronze Charters and Special Awards were awarded in seven categories: Tourist Farms, Entrepreneurs in Rural Tourism, Rural Tourism Projects, Rural Tourism Events, Traditional Rural Gastronomy, Wine Tourism and Protected and Marketing Labels.

"Rural tourism deserves our special attention and even better promotion, which we will achieve, among other things, by advocating our priorities during the Croatian presidency of the Council of the EU. We will insist on pursuing sustainable development policies and encouraging the diversity of the tourist offer, in order to encourage the development of less developed tourist areas, which I believe will enable the development of tourist products that will further contribute to the development of rural tourism. Congratulations to all nominees and thank you for your dedicated work in this part of the Croatian tourist offer, which really has the opportunity to live as a tourist all twelve months of the year and which confirms great synergy with other types of tourism and thus horizontally includes several different stakeholders.", Pointed out the Minister of Tourism and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister Gary Cappelli, adding that according to the latest Tomas research, guests on average spend 119 euros on the continent, and 94 euros per day on the coast.

"Due to the fact that we are still a country of preserved environment, beautiful landscapes, rich and unique gastronomic and oenological offer, rural tourism can make a strong contribution to employment and rural development, extension of the tourist season and general development of continental tourism. , including the city of Zagreb, participates with less than four percent. We believe that with the introduction of the Cro card we will further popularize continental and thus rural tourism, but also that in the coming period we will more strongly valorize the tourist potential that lies in rural areas through gastronomy, oenology, hunting and fishing tourism and health tourism. It is certain that such competitions also contribute to the popularization of rural tourism, which is why the Croatian Chamber of Commerce is a sponsor and patron", Said the Vice President for Agriculture and Tourism of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce Dragan Kovacevic.

"The tour lasts several months. All nominees must be visited and evaluated according to clearly defined criteria. Our laureates are first and foremost top hosts, lovers of their region, lovers of tradition and heritage, visionaries and most importantly, extremely brave and ready for all challenges. If it weren't for them, there would be no Croatian village for a long time, and the beautiful rural area would remain an untapped potential. The sunflower of rural tourism is the least we can do to thank them in some way and encourage them to be even better and better", Says mr. sc. Dijana Katica, President of the Croatian Association for Tourism and Rural Development "Selo Members Club", who is the initiator and organizer of the project.

The sunflower of rural tourism promotes rural tourism and traditional contents, and while preserving the originality, new products of rural tourism are created.
