At Paprikafest, buy the best sweet and hot ground pepper on the globe.

If you have ever doubted when to go to the east of Croatia, the best invitation will be sent to you in autumn in Baranja. Painted in a wide range of autumn colors, Baranja will in the coming days exude the color of "red gold", a traditional and widely known Baranja spicy pepper.

The 12th edition of Paprika Fest in Lug will take place on October 2nd and 3rd, and as early as 10 a.m. samples will be received to rate the best spicy peppers. And while the expert court will choose the best, a rich program has been prepared in Lug for all visitors. It is an opportunity to get acquainted with the way of life in a small Baranja town, to learn how to string peppers into wreaths, to peek into yards and barns and to get to know the tradition and culture of Baranja people.

It will be cheerful and lively in Lug throughout the weekend, and the program, which is getting richer every year, offers something to all generations. Visitors will have the opportunity in addition to traditional music and dance, enjoy Baranja cuisine as well where special attention is paid to the spicy pepper. And, if you like the gastronomic offer, you can take that part of Baranja home, because the Baranja housewives will offer paprika, zimnica, jams, ajvars and other home-made products made from Baranja field products, in the traditional way.

You can take part in this year's Paprika Fest try and cook fish in, a traditional Baranja dish. Baranja Cup - Fisijada starts on Saturday at 17 pm. This is the time when carefully guarded family recipes see the light of day, which are passed down from generation to generation in Baranja. With the usual ingredients and well-known ratios of fish, onion and water, excellent minced red pepper stands out from the good fish. The color, smell and taste will make it out of fish soup top quality Baranja fish.

Whether hot or sweet, paprika is the main ingredient in many other dishes in Baranja and beyond. Without it, there is no good shepherd's pie, perkelta, paprikash, not even ajvar and kulen. Peppers are said to have healing effects, and when you add top gastronomy, a glass of wine from the Baranja vineyards, music and folk customs of the Baranja Hungarians, they will guarantee a cure for both soul and body.

So let the first weekend in October be reserved for you to visit Paprika fest in Lug, and you can complete it by visiting Kopački rit which is only a few minutes away, by staying in one of the rural households and walking through the golden Banovo hill.
